Board Policy 3590 – Student Dress Code

In School District No. 68, it is expected that students will dress in a manner that is appropriate and conducive to a positive and safe learning environment.
Dover Bay School Policy
While Dover Bay encourages individual creativity and student empowerment, the school also recognizes a need to guide students toward acceptable attire for different surroundings: school, work, etc. The following guidelines have been created with input from students, staff and parents. At Dover Bay the following are general expectations for school dress, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
Students and staff will not wear clothing that promotes:
  •  Drugs
  •  Alcohol use
  • Tobacco
  • Gang related clothing/paraphernalia
  • Violence or anti-social behaviour
  • Offensive language
  •  Defamation/put down of others
Shorts, skirts and dresses should be at least mid-thigh.  Shorts must have a three-inch inseam. Inappropriate dress includes:
  • “Tops” not meeting “Bottoms”
  • Bare midriffs
  • Strapless attire
  • Exposure of undergarments
  • Muscle shirts
  • Tube tops
  • Backless garments
  • See-through/low-cut clothing
  • Jewelry with metal spikes
  • Chains hanging 12 cm. or more below belt
  • Sagging pants below the hips
Shoes must be worn at all times – footwear that poses a tripping, falling or safety hazard are prohibited, e.g. spiked heels.
All students and staff are expected to adhere to the Dover Bay Secondary Dress Code Policy.  Monitoring and enforcement will be carried out by all staff with the paramount authority resting with the principal.
Students who wear clothing that is not appropriate will be asked to change into acceptable attire. Repeated offences will result in discipline measures leading to parental conference.
