‘uy netulh

The hul’q’umi’num word of the week is shqwalawun [shkwal-ah-win]. Shqwalawun means who we are at the core of our being.  Remember to listen to your shqwalawun.

February is Black History Month

Born on December 16th, 1967, Donovan Bailey is a Jamaican-Canadian athlete who immigrated to Canada in 1981. In the 1996 Olympics, he won gold in the 100-meter dash, helped the Canadian team win gold in the 4 x 100 relay race, as well as received the Canadian Sport Award in the same year. The following year he won silver in the 100-meter dash and was a crucial part of the gold-winning team for the 4 x 100 relay race. In 2001 he retired and in 2002 Donovan set up the Donovan Bailey Foundation which assists amateur athletes in Canada.
