Model UN Club
Dover, do you want to be a real star? Do you play an instrument, sing, dance, or have a cool party trick to share? Well, this is your chance to really shine! The Dover Bay Model UN club is back-at-it again, hosting the annual Dover’s Got Talent in person this year! Auditions begin after school on March 31st, the first Friday back from spring break. Signups for in-person auditions come out during spring break, so keep an eye on our Instagram page, @doverbaymodelun for an update. You can also send in a video submission to doverbaymun@gmail.com. For any inquiries, feel free to contact Mr. King in E109. Take the stage and show us what you got!

Badminton try-outs for Grades 8-9 are happening today at 4 pm in the gym. It will be helpful if you sign up ahead of time on the Dover Athletics website – go to the Badminton page!
Dover Bay Senior Boys won their second game last night at the Provincial Championship Tournament.
After being down by nine points at the half, the team came back and won 83-76 over MEI from Abbostford. Luke Linder set a tournament record with 49 points in the game for Dover Bay.
Great work by all the players and coaches in the win.
Today, Dover Bay plays the sixth ranked team North Delta at 3:30 PM. With a win, the team will move on to the finals of the tournament tomorrow.

Girls Wellness Group is cancelled for today. We are picking back up after Spring Break.

The RCMP youth camp applications are almost due. It is an exciting 5 day camp where students stay on site overnight and it is designed to simulate RCMP training.
This camp is for students who are interested in a career as a first responder, not just law enforcement. The fire department, paramedics as well as dispatchers are scheduled to provides some insight into their careers during camp. The camp provides participants with 4 school credits at the grade 12 level. This year’s camp will take place July 3-7 2023. Applications are due tomorrow, March 10th, 2023.

February is Black History Month
Alice Ball was an African American chemist who developed the “Ball method” which was the first successful treatment for people suffering from leprosy. She was the first woman and African American to graduate from the University of Hawaii and later on became the first Woman and African American chemistry professor at that University. She saved many lives due to the creation of her treatment.
As this announcement concludes Black History Month, we would like to thank everyone for listening. If you found these interesting, we encourage you to come check out the Impact club, which meets Wednesdays at lunch in Ms. McLeod’s classroom. We hope to see you there!

Today we have the mushroom barley soup for $3.50, the short order is the chipotle chicken burrito with sour cream and salsa for $5.00 and $7.50 with fries. The entrée is ginger beef served with chow mein noodles and vegetables for $7.50.
The sandwich of the week is the clubhouse sandwich for $5.00. Add a soup, salad or fries to your sandwich for $2.50.

The RCMP youth camp applications are almost due. It is an exciting 5 day camp where students stay on site overnight and it is designed to simulate RCMP training.
This camp is for students who are interested in a career as a first responder, not just law enforcement. The fire department, paramedics as well as dispatchers are scheduled to provides some insight into their careers during camp. The camp provides participants with 4 school credits at the grade 12 level. This year’s camp will take place July 3-7 2023. Applications are due March 10th, 2023.

February is Black History Month
Christopher Usih is the Chief Superintendent of the Calgary Board of Education. Mr. Usih has been an educator for over 28 years. His career began teaching in an Indigenous community in Northern Manitoba. When he moved to Toronto, he filled several roles in his District; teacher, principal, associate director, and Superintendent. Mr. Usih is committed to equity, raising academic standards, and filling gaps in his community. He is a man of integrity and efficiency.

To celebrate the end of Sweater Season, Eco Club will be serving hot chocolate tomorrow morning in the atrium. Donate a coin for a cup of hot chocolate, and those who bring their own mug can receive hot chocolate for free!

Congratulations to the Sr. Boys Basketball team who won the Islands this weekend! Also, a congratulations to the Grade 9 Boys Basketball team who came in 3rd at the Islands. Great job boys!
Congratulations to the Grade 8 girls basketball team who have qualified for the provincial championship. Good luck at provincials later this week to the girls and their coaches!

February is Black History Month
David Shepherd is a man that is all about connection and community engagement. He is a born and raised Edmontonian and has worked as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the city for over five years. He is a lover of the arts and cycling, two things Edmonton is more and more noted for. His passion for politics comes out in all that he does.
Specifically, his dedication to the Black community is exceptional. He continuously fights for what is right and justice amongst the citizens of the city of Edmonton. David is an advocate for the technology and innovation sector. As well, he fights for proper funding for affordable housing for those that have addiction concerns. He currently represents Edmonton-City Centre.

Could the Grade 8 girls basketball teams (BOTH Team 1 and Team 2) come to the dance studio at lunch.
Also, good luck to the Dover Bay Jr. boys Basketball team playing in the Provincials this weekend!

March Madness sign-up has been extended to today to sign up your team for this awesome competition. From February 28th – March 19th teams will be competing in three weekly challenges. Teams will be going head to head to see who will reign as this year’s champions!
Today at lunch there will be a photo booth set up in the atrium. Come down and take a nice photo with your friends.
High Fives and Hugs – today at lunch volunteers will be giving out free high fives and hugs to anyone who wants one.

Attention all Grade 12’s, it is Time to vote for your grad gear logo. Thanks to all of our graduating artists who submitted a drawing for this. We have had an amazing interest in designing this year’s logo with over 13 entries received! Dover Bay rocks. Grads, remember to vote carefully, as you can only vote once and after you’ve submitted it cannot be changed. Voting is in Google Classroom and will close tomorrow Thursday, Feb. 23rd at noon.

A reminder to all grade 12’s to sign up for your Capstone interviews. There is a QR code in the counselling centre and the Peer Tutors can help you sign up.
